Is Your Home Inviting to Ants, Roaches and Spiders?

Posted on Jul 5, 2013

Nobody wants to deal with the infestation of pests such as roaches, ants, spiders and other creatures.  The presence of pests in the home is uncomfortable, and creates an unpleasant atmosphere for family and friends.  What can you do to prevent pest infestation before it takes hold?

Monitor Your Home’s Heat and Humidity

Pests are attracted to environments that offer warm temperatures and high humidity.  They will tend to congregate in moist areas, such as kitchens and bathrooms.  If possible, try to manage the heat and humidity levels in your home so that pests won’t be tempted to enter and stay.  Typically, lower heat and humidity will be less inviting to pests.

Keep Food Sealed

One of the main things that attracts pests to a home is the presence of easily accessible food.  Make sure to keep your food and garbage sealed, so that pests won’t be able to feast inside your house.  In addition to keeping all food sealed, make sure to clean up crumbs and spills right away in order to prevent attracting pests such as ants.

Prevent Pests from Entering

The more entries that are available to pests, the more likely they will be to find a way into your home.  Make sure to seal off cracks under doors, in windows, or in siding.  Do you leave your windows open often?  Make sure to use screens, and repair any tears that have occurred.  If pests can’t enter your home, they will have a harder time infesting it.

If you have a pest infestation problem, the best way to take care of it is by contacting a professional exterminator.  At Extermco, we provide a variety of residential and commercial pest control services.  Please visit our website to learn more about pest management, or contact us to set up an appointment.
