How To Know if You Have A Problem With Bedbugs

Posted on Aug 12, 2013

Determining if you have a problem with bedbugs can often be challenging, especially since the signs start out small. Many people do not have an allergy to the bites, which can delay finding out about the problem until it approaches a critical level. By learning how to detect if you have a bed bug problem, eliminating the problem before it becomes a true hassle should be achievable.

There are Multiple Signs of A Bedbug Infestation Besides Bites

Although there is a tendency to associate a bedbug infestation with an unkept home, a bedbug infestation can occur in any home. However, keeping your home tidy may make it easier to detect and treat a problem. Look for these factors

  • Blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases
  • Dark or rusty spots of bedbug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed linens, and walls
  • Bedbug fecal spots, egg shells, or shed skins in areas where bedbugs hide

If you suspect that you are being bitten, set an alarm clock and experiment with various times of your sleep cycle. Upon waking quickly turn on a light and inspect the bed. Although bed bugs are known for being able to scatter quickly, you can typically catch them in the act if you are quick. Another option is to set traps around the room and on your bed posts. Fly traps work excellent for this purpose.

For those who are allergic to bed bug bites, it is typically straightforward to identify that a problem is occurring. The bites tend to appear in a straight line and biting cycles reoccur once or twice a week. One easy way to find out the location of an infestation is to switch the room that you sleep in. Although bed bugs do migrate after a period of time, going a week without bites in a different location will allow you to pinpoint the source of the infestation.

Although these are some DIY ways to see if you have bedbugs, please remember most pest control companies that treat bedbugs, do free inspection.  We offer same day service.
