Bed Bug Insurance is a Thing?

Admin • Feb 07, 2018
If anyone tells you; if you have bed bugs that there is a quick fix or a miracle cure, they are lying to you. If they tell you they know a guy that can do it cheap or they know of a DIY product you can buy at (insert any of your favorite hardware stores here) they are lying to you. If anyone tells you, they had bed bugs and it was an easy process to prepare for and it was inexpensive, again, they're lying to you.

We perform bed bug services nearly every single day. I will not sugar coat the process to you (the person reading this) and I won't sugar coat it to our potential customer. To be completely honest, it is a nightmare! The worst kind of nightmare. Sometimes, the kind of nightmare that doesn't go away, even when it does!

If you have had bed bugs and have had it treated, please skip to the last paragraph. You already know all of this! From the very beginning, just the confirmation that you have bed bugs will send some people screaming (or crying). Once we explain the process of the customer preparation for the service, you will realize that you are slowly sinking deep into this nightmare! Sometimes the prep work alone will take more than a day. After I explain how to prep the house, then I let you know how much this service is going to cost. The average bed bug cost is between $1,500 and $2,000! That is A LOT of money. Especially when you are expecting me to say $100 like every other service we offer. From the confirmation, to the prep work, to the cost, this all equals a very bad day! And to be completely honest, performing the service isn't a picnic for us either. It is VERY hard work. Usually the service takes 8+ hours to complete.

I am not delusioned. I am well aware that $1,500 is a lot of money. Even if you have disposable income, you don't want to feel like you are throwing money down the drain. Especially over one thousand dollars!

I myself am in the trenches nearly every day dealing with some aspect of bed bugs. I have personally witnessed the mental and financial struggle that people face with this service. I am the bug guy all the time and I'm a grief counselor MOST of the time. I have seen people eyes swell up with tears, cry hysterically, I have seen anger, disappointment and confusion. Basically I have been involved in the whole gamut of emotions and I standi in their living room laying out the absolute worst case scenario to their worst nightmare.

Now on to the whole reason for this blog post. Because of everything you have read above (or lived out yourself) I have done the only thing that I could think of to help EVERYONE. I have created a very specfic type of insurance... Bed Bug Insurance!

Bed Bug Insurance is just what it sounds like. We send out an inspector to your home and do a free inspection. Assuming you don't have bed bugs, we can offer you an insurance that will protect you from the massive cost of a bed bug service. First and foremost; what is Delusionary Parasitosis ? Delusional Parasitosis is a relatively uncommon disorder in which sufferers hold a delusional belief that they are infested with parasites, such as: lice, mites or bedbugs. This disorder has been found to originate in various ways, often being rooted in a previous disturbing encounter with an infestation of one of the parasites listed above. In my personal experience as a pest control operator, it usually starts with an infestation of bedbugs. The sufferer can offer up such a vivid account of the parasites on their body, that it becomes contagious to their family. In 10 to 25% of all cases, the sensation can be shared by family members. This phenomenon is called folie partagee. Simply meaning “shared madness” Although delusional disorders are rare, many doctors believe that Delusional Parasitosis is far more common than the statistics suggest. Before any medical professionals are involved, it’s usually a pest control operator that is making initial contact. The first and most important thing we can do as being pest professionals is to inspect and rule out any actual parasites or anything that could be biting. Typically, Delusionary Parasitosis isn’t even considered until having multiple accounts with the same individual. The next stage between the sufferer and the pest professional is called the “matchbox sign” It’s named for the proclivity of sufferers to present an expert with a matchbox (or other container) said to be holding the parasites. Usually, it’s full of skin flakes, lint, dirt or some other unknown debris. After multiple encounters, I try not to directly challenge the claim of being infested, but to firmly and gently direct them to a mental health professional. Delusional Parasitosis can be a serious condition. People suffering from this condition may self-mutilate, scratching themselves to the point where they can cause serious skin damage and bleeding. Without help, the condition rarely resolves itself. It’s an unconventional collaboration, but with an examination of a medical professional and an inspection from a pest management professional it’s the only way to nail down a diagnosis of Delusionary Parasitosis.
