Ah, summertime in Northwest Arkansas. The sun is shining, the temperatures are rising, and the great outdoors beckon. But along with all the fun and beauty of the season comes unwelcome visitors – mosquitoes. These annoying insects can quickly turn a lovely evening on the patio into an itchy nightmare. Fear not, though, for we have some tips to help you deal with mosquitoes and enjoy a buzz-free summer in Northwest Arkansas.

1. Eliminate Standing Water: Mosquitoes can breed in less than a 1/4 inch of stagnant water, so remove any standing water sources around your property. Check for clogged gutters, flower pots, bird baths, and other areas where water can accumulate. By eliminating these breeding grounds, you'll reduce the mosquito population around your home.

2. Maintain Your Yard: Mosquitoes love to hide in tall grass and overgrown vegetation, so keep your lawn well-maintained. Regularly mow the grass, trim bushes, and remove any leaf litter or debris. By keeping your yard tidy, you'll create a less appealing habitat for mosquitoes.

3. Use Mosquito Repellents: When spending time outdoors, protect yourself with mosquito repellents. Look for products containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, as they are effective in repelling mosquitoes. Apply the repellent according to the instructions on the label and reapply as needed.

4. Wear Protective Clothing: When mosquitoes are at their peak, cover up exposed skin with long sleeves, pants, and socks. Opt for lightcolored clothing as mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors. Consider treating your clothes with permethrin, an insect repellent that can be applied to clothing for added protection.

5. Install Screens and Maintain Doors and Windows: Keep mosquitoes out of your home by installing screens on windows and doors. Check for any tears or holes in the screens and repair them promptly. Additionally, ensure that doors and windows are properly sealed to prevent mosquitoes from sneaking indoors.

6. Create a Mosquito-Unfriendly Environment: Mosquitoes are attracted to certain scents, so try to avoid wearing perfumes or scented lotions when spending time outdoors. Consider planting mosquito-repelling plants like citronella, lavender, or marigolds in your garden. These plants can help deter mosquitoes naturally.

7. Consider Professional Mosquito Control: If you're facing a severe mosquito problem that DIY methods can't solve, consider hiring professional mosquito control services. We all have the expertise and tools to effectively manage mosquito populations in your area.

Remember, mosquitoes are not just annoying; they can also transmit diseases like West Nile virus and Zika virus. So, taking proactive steps to protect yourself and your loved ones is essential. By following these tips and adopting mosquito control measures, you can enjoy a more comfortable and mosquito-free summer in beautiful Northwest Arkansas. Now, go out and make the most of the season without worrying about those buzzing intruders!

First and foremost; what is Delusionary Parasitosis ? Delusional Parasitosis is a relatively uncommon disorder in which sufferers hold a delusional belief that they are infested with parasites, such as: lice, mites or bedbugs. This disorder has been found to originate in various ways, often being rooted in a previous disturbing encounter with an infestation of one of the parasites listed above. In my personal experience as a pest control operator, it usually starts with an infestation of bedbugs. The sufferer can offer up such a vivid account of the parasites on their body, that it becomes contagious to their family. In 10 to 25% of all cases, the sensation can be shared by family members. This phenomenon is called folie partagee. Simply meaning “shared madness” Although delusional disorders are rare, many doctors believe that Delusional Parasitosis is far more common than the statistics suggest. Before any medical professionals are involved, it’s usually a pest control operator that is making initial contact. The first and most important thing we can do as being pest professionals is to inspect and rule out any actual parasites or anything that could be biting. Typically, Delusionary Parasitosis isn’t even considered until having multiple accounts with the same individual. The next stage between the sufferer and the pest professional is called the “matchbox sign” It’s named for the proclivity of sufferers to present an expert with a matchbox (or other container) said to be holding the parasites. Usually, it’s full of skin flakes, lint, dirt or some other unknown debris. After multiple encounters, I try not to directly challenge the claim of being infested, but to firmly and gently direct them to a mental health professional. Delusional Parasitosis can be a serious condition. People suffering from this condition may self-mutilate, scratching themselves to the point where they can cause serious skin damage and bleeding. Without help, the condition rarely resolves itself. It’s an unconventional collaboration, but with an examination of a medical professional and an inspection from a pest management professional it’s the only way to nail down a diagnosis of Delusionary Parasitosis.
